The National Constitution Center celebrates Black History Month with a variety of programs and exhibits, including a special tour that spotlights the story of the African American experience and the struggle for equality.

In this interview excerpt, Princeton scholar Cornel West discusses the influence of the prophetic black church on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and other members of the civil rights movement. West explains how King translated its Christian religious message into a civic dialogue about liberty and democracy that moved the nation closer to its ideals.
