Who’s your favorite president?
Ever since it began polling in the 1930′s, the Gallup organization has asked Americans “who is the nation’s greatest president?” This year, Ronald Reagan came out on top. In the video below, presidential historian Michael Beschloss provides a possible explanation for Reagan’s ascent.
While those polled tended to value recent presidents over those who served long ago, Abraham Lincoln did come in second. Not surprisingly, Republicans preferred Reagan at a 38% clip (with George Washington coming in a distant second). Democrats favored Bill Clinton at 22% (John Kennedy was second with 18%). Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, John Kennedy, and George W. Bush all made the top ten.
At the Center we ask our guests who their favorite president is in our main exhibit. The results as of Monday:
